A Bag for Largess

An Embroidered Hood

I haven't spent a great deal of time looking at clothing from the 12th to 15th centuries so this hood has been a very fun project. Images of extant hoods or hoods represented in illumination from this period shows that many of the hoods had some sort of embroidery or embellishment. Illuminations being small, there isn't a great deal of detail that can be gleaned beyond that.

This hood is wool lined in linen and entirely hand sewn. The embroidery is done in perl cotton using both chain and stem stiches in a motif that is fairly classic for the 14th century.

The button holes are also done in perl cotton and the buttons are hand worked linen stuffed with wool.

Eventually, I may add some small beads but haven't as yet decided.
