I've been making Anglo-Saxon clothing this year. This is a tunic for my husband that started out as a mock-up based on his favorite, but not period constructed, tunic. Once I got this 'mock-up' finished, however, I really liked it and wanted to 'bling' it up a bit.
The neck is bound with a cotton bias strip (mock-up, remember). I then used a template to draw, in water soluable pen, the curled motifs. I outlined the motifs in chain stitch, using cotton perl, and then used a faggot stitch to fill those in and pull the goldenrod color from the binding into the embroidery. In the center of each curl is a single silver bead, to give it some interest.
