Embroidered Hat

An Embroidered Hat

This year, instead of bags, I concentrated on hats as a common 'canvas' for applique and embroidery.

I chose an Uzbek "Tree of Life" motif and added seed beads as a further embellishment. The central section of the flowers are almost three-dimensional because they are a third layer of wool and very thick. I rather like how that turned out and may use it again.

The fur is faux and I'm currently hunting about for a real fur that I like but have yet to find anything. The top 'point' is the pattern that I'll use when I create the point in brass.

The hat was flat lined in cream colored silk and then sewn completely together using the Van Dyke stitch. The seams were finished prior to this and I found this method of construction and finishing very satisfying.
