Based on one of my favorite patterns from the book Purses in Pieces: Archaeological Finds of Late Medieval and 16th-century Leather Purses, Pouches, Bags and Cases in the Netherlands, by Olaf Goubitz.
This is also a fairly straight forward bag, using an all-over embroidery motif and no applique. The base wool is a fulled wool in a very dark green. The embroidery is carried out almost entirely in chain stitch with a few sections in satin and running stitch.
I designed this motif for a friend based on his SCA heraldry. SCA heraldry doesn't translate well into non-European design aesthetics so I took what he had and 'Norsified' it. I attempted to stay within the Jelling era but, as Norse is not my strongest suit, I was only partially successful. It does succeed, however, in turning something that was SCA-centric into something which is a bit more persona-centric for a person running a Norse persona.
The bag itself is lined with a linen and the edges bound with the same linen. The interior pouch pocket is also linen.
